This is not the first time that there are rumors concerning the possibility to build a new stadium for AC Milan. However, once more, the mayor of Milan, Giuseppe Sala, seemed to be uncompromising: “I am against the construction of a new facility in Milan. I believe that the clubs are not willing to support such a massive investment. San Siro is one of the five most famous stadiums in the world, so we have to carefully think about what to do.”
As he stated at Sky Sport 24, mayor Giuseppe Sala firmly believe that there’s the possibility for a collaboration between AC Milan and Inter to improve the actual facility: “First of all San Siro must be improved in order to make it more modern, but it’s not possible to change the setup every week depending on who is playing at home. I already spoke with Thohir and Zhang and I believe that they prefer to remain in San Siro. The fundamental condition is that the stadium has to be divided, with two separate entrances, two dressing rooms, two hospitality areas, and two press rooms. There’s plenty of space to do so, we just need funds, however, not a massive investment as if you were to build a new stadium.”
Mayor Giuseppe Sala, who has never hidden his passion for Inter, also mentioned that a few times he spoke with Massimo Moratti about his decision to sell the club: “He told me that in order to be competitive on the European stage there’s the need of serious investments that are difficult for the Italian entrepreneurs. I would suggest the two new Chinese ownership that are pursuing the clubs of Milan to not make the mistake of not relying on an Italian professional management.”
