New logos for Bundesliga
New logos for Bundesliga (Bundesliga.com)

Following the Premier League’s rebranding in 2016, Germany will follow suit with new logos for the Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 from the 2017/18 campaign. The DFL (German Football League), German football’s operating body, will also have its own logo for the first time.

The current Bundesliga branding, the current iteration of which has been in use since 2003, will feature a slightly flatter style than before and has been slightly modified in order to accommodate digitisation requirements.

The Bundesliga 2 logo will be broadly similar to the Bundesliga logo but with a “2” placed on a grey background in the lower right section. This change is aimed “to position it more clearly in its relations with fans, the media and sponsors,” according to the league’s website, as well as “to additionally strengthen the profile of the competition.”

Both Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 logos are primarily used from a sports perspective, but while the new DFL logo will be similar in style to create stylistic uniformity throughout the German football pyramid, it will also serve another purpose to highlight the DFL as “the core pillar of German professional football for political, social and business purposes.”
