Italian national team coach Gian Piero Ventura’s request to anticipate the start of the next Serie A season could potentially be accepted.  The FIGC opened the doors to the possibility to start the season earlier to give Italy’s players a better chance for the decisive match against Spain on Sept. 2nd for world cup qualifying.

According to the Italian football federation president Carlo Tavecchio: “this is a possibility but certainly we must exclude August 15th because it is a holy day for all Italians. It would be crazy to think of playing on that day in August, the Italians in August are somewhere else.

Carlo Tavecchio further analyzed the situation, “we are going to find a solution with the clubs of the Serie A that are busy with their summer tours around the world. We will find a solution that will be suitable for everyone. We have to think that the match against Spain is a pivotal moment for the qualification to the World Cup, so someone must make sacrifices.

Even the great goalkeeper of the Italian national team, Gigi Buffon, expressed his point of view on this matter, “It would be a small sacrifice, but reshaping the calendar might help us out. We could play a game that we hope will be decisive in the best possible conditions.
