Barcelona has announced that they have signed a four year extension with superstar Lionel Messi, who will remain with Barcelona until June 30, 2021. Messi’s current deal was going to expire in June 2018. By taking care of this extension now, it should cool any speculation that he would leave the club, with the other big European clubs eager to pounce on the chance to get him.

The 30 year-old Argentinian international will sign his contract upon his return from his honeymoon.

Financial details of the deal were not disclosed, however it is speculated Messi will earn between €35 and €40 million – with a buyout clause set at €300 million.

To address the ratio limit of revenues and total salaries, he will receive a signing bonus of  €50 million according to Spanish daily Sport.

This will be the eighth contract renewal of Messi with Barcelona. The first one was signed in June 2005 when he turned 18 years old.
